Foster Parents Plan
95 St. Clair Avenue West, Suite 1001
Toronto, Ontario M4V 3B5

Foster Parents Plan, a member of PLAN International, has been working in Nepal since 1978. As with all countries where they work, they know that to help a child in a lasting way, they must also help his or her family and the local community to become self-sufficient.

Through child sponsorship, they work with families and communities for as long as it takes to strengthen their capacity to provide their children with stability, protection and security in a way that is sustainable. Sponsorship contributions are not given directly to the Foster Children. Instead, they are used to strengthen community development, benefiting the child, family and entire community.

Foster Parents Plan programs encompass all components of a child's well-being, including health, education, habitat, family income generation and the very special aspects of cross-cultural learning and relationships.

Foster Parents Plan works in the regions of Rautahat, Makwanpur (south west of Kathmandu), Banke (on the Indian border), Dharan, Sunsari/Morang and Sallyan. Projects in these areas range from building health clinics to teaching children and adults to read and write to training communities members in improved agricultural techniques.

Nepal School Fund
Our work with the school started in 1994. At that time, the school consisted of 3 classrooms and principal’s office, 2 teachers and an enrolment of 25 children. The floor was earth – the walls brick with open space below the tin roof. Currently, the school has grown to an enrolment of 75 children taught by 4 teachers. The building has been closed in with windows and doors, wood walls and floor. Blackboards and desks have been added to each of the five classrooms. An ample playground is located directly in front of the school building.

With the completion of the school building in 2004, we now fund the salary for one additional teacher. The balance of salaries is covered by the government of Nepal.

Donations may be made to the NEPAL SCHOOL FUND c/o Everest Trekking, 2517 York Ave. Vancouver, BC V6K 1E3.

TRAS was founded in 1962 by George Woodcock to help the Tibetan refugees. Over the past 40 years, we have been active in community projects and child sponsorship and have expanded to assist all peoples of the Trans-Himalayan region.

Currently we have projects in Tibet, Nepal and India featuring sanitation, conservation, immunization, basic education, literacy for women and vocational training.

Our individual child sponsorship program has enabled many children to have a secure upbringing and education. Some of these children are now adults and in a position to provide help themselves. For example, Dorje Namgyal, who was a TRAS sponsored child, is the founder and current principal of the Buddha Memorial Children's Home in Kathmandu, Nepal.
